September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month

In 2008, September 14th was declared National Childhood Cancer Awareness Day. Fast forward 4 years and this one day was upgraded to a whole month. In 2012, current President of the United States of America, Barack Obama proclaimed the month of September as such. He encouraged all Americans to "reaffirm our commitment to fighting childhood cancer". It is estimated that every 3 minutes, somewhere in the world, a family is devastated by the news of their child being diagnosed with cancer. Childhood Cancer is the number one cause of death of children in the United States.

But there is hope...

With advancements in technology and funding, treatment cures have increased and the population of childhood cancer survivors has also. The 5 year survival rate for childhood cancer is close to 80%.

We at the Frances Pope Memorial Foundation are deeply aware of the plight of the families touched by childhood cancer. Like similar organizations this month, we are devoted to raising awareness of childhood cancer. We remember fondly all of the children we have helped through their fight, and sadly all of those who lost their fight. We recognize those who are committed to finding cures for cancers and hope that one day their work will pay off.
